A celebration amidst the alien chaos

As the fight against the Thargoids rages on in the center of the Sol System, the developers behind Elite Dangerous celebrates a far cheerier occasion: its 10th anniversary.

In its “Celebrating 10 Years” video, the Elite Dangerous team brings on several key members of the team, including David Braben himself, to celebrate the game's decade of success. The developers talk about the joys of Elite Dangerous’s player base and universe, whether it’s exploring solo or coming together to accomplish goals.

While they have your attention, the galaxy may require the help of its loyal pilots. Most recently in Elite Dangerous news, the Thargoid’s Titan Cocijo has menaced the Sol System—but there’s hope, as it’s vulnerable to attack at the moment. This could be the last stand from both the humans and the Thargoids, and pilots are encouraged to join by simply blasting at the Titan Cocijo at any possible time, with no registration needed.

Before we wax sentimental for too long, if you’re still playing, be sure to grab a Gold Wireframe Paint Job for the Anaconda to commemorate the occasion, available on the store for zero currency until Friday.

Of course, the Elite franchise goes back far further than the Dangerous title. Braben led the first Elite title released for the NES in 1984, a mix of space combat and self-contained economies that let players update the ship as they saw fit. Elite Dangerous is technically the fourth full-fledged title in the series, released nearly 20 years after the prior PC game after a struggle to find a publisher.

Elite Dangerous, like other games that have survived since the early 2010s, sees a lot of regular care from its developers. Elite Dangerous remains a quiet hit in the online gaming community, spanning across multiple consoles and platforms with its regular updates. While it’s made some controversial gameplay decisions here and there, it still works to keep its community engaged.
