The Guild Wars 2 blog has been updated with a look at how the guild mission system will be undergoing a significant update with the Heart of Thorns expansion coming in October.
First off the bat is the announcement that guild missions will come in both PvE and PvP flavors, with the latter being the new addition. Along with this, guilds will be able to select which types of missions they'd prefer each week that allows PvP-centric or PvE-centric guilds to specialize in what they like to do most. These come with gains to favor, but a maximum favor cap will be implemented each week and overall. During missions, players will be able to earn personal rewards simply for participating even if, for instance, one is disconnected.
Guild Challenges and Puzzles will be solely instanced-based with all guilds "rolling" the same mission type every week. By providing instances, several guilds can complete these challenges and puzzles simultaneously.
Players are integral in guild success as well. As each guild hall levels, more mission slot upgrades can be purchased that allow for more options each week.
Lastly, mission objectives can be prerolled with all objectives known from the start, or randomized for random targets. Most will, however, remain prerolled, with Bounties and Treks remaining in the randomized column.
