World of Warships recently kicked off Update 14.2, introducing a wave of experimental ships and fresh mechanics designed to shake up gameplay without unbalancing the core experience. The experimental ships will only stick around until Update 14.7, running from March 5 to August 6, so hop in and give them a test while you can.
In a recent blog post, Wargaming has outlined the first experimental ship trio, the VIII Metz, the IX Vyazma, and the X Oregon. Each of these new ships is set to offer unique gameplay twists. The standout mechanics feature 'Fight or Flight' which boosts main battery reload speed and accuracy as the ship loses HP, zero upgrade modules for these ships, and a limited stockpile of various AP shells. The ships also do not require commander retraining and have their own special mission chain.
Geared primarily for experienced players, you can unlock these ships via a special Tech Tree section, completing missions or spending Free XP and Credits combined with the new Action Reports currency. Playing each ship once grants bonus Coal, with commemorative rewards for unlocking all three, so you won't want to miss it.
Wargaming has been making some big strides lately, including a huge Star Trek collaboration and an entirely new IP called Steel Hunters which takes players into the realm of animalistic mech-like combat. Experimental ships are just the latest in a long line of moves the team has made to keep their growing playerbase engaged.
