Hostile Takeover of Gameloft Complete, Vivendi Eyes Ubisoft

After years of quietly, and sometimes not so quietly, buying up any shares of Gameloft, Vivendi finally has become the majority owner of the mobile games company. Alongside the Gameloft purchases, Vivendi has also been making moves on Ubisoft by purchasing available stocks from shareholders at an inflated price that 'encourages' them to sell. The Guillemot brothers run Ubisoft and have been scrambling to secure agreements from shareholders to keep more Ubi stocks out of Vivendi hands.

Vivendi penned a letter to Gameloft employees:

We, like you, are working on the development of innovative formats adapted to the all-mobile generation. Our commitment to new formats is demonstrated by the upcoming launch of Studio+, the first worldwide offering of premium digital series specially designed for mobile screens.

We have much to gain from close collaboration with Gameloft's teams and all its partners. You will take part in a great collective adventure as Vivendi pursues its ambitious redeployment in content and media. This plan will rely above all on your talents and creative freedom.
