NetEase and Marvel announced new details on team-based PvP shooter Marvel Rivals at Comic-Con, unveiling a new story trailer, revealing character voice talent, and even adding two new characters to the currently-on closed beta, Jeff the Land Shark and Thor.
Part of the premise of the game's story is that heroes and villains need to unite to confront a cosmic threat on the horizon. That cosmic threat? The trailer is called “No One Rivals Doom”, so if you guessed Doctor Doom is involved, well you’ve got that right.
It won't necessarily be that straightforward, as the team promises twists and turns, and surprises that will turn up in the narrative as you progress through the game, pick your side, and develop your skills.
In Marvel Rivals, you get to build your squad of superheroes and supervillains with unique powers out of the comics, on a series of destructible Maps set in various locations taken from the Marvel Universe.
Marvel Rivals is centered around Marvel characters, and we did get a partial voice talent reveal. Among the cast are: Cassandra Lee Morris, who was featured in Persona 5 as Morgana, as Galacta, Troy Baker as Loki, Nolan North playing Rocket Raccoon, Mara Junot as Storm, and Yuri Lowenthal as Spider-Man. Shota Nakama, the founder of Video Games Orchestra and guitarist Godspeed will join on music. With so many featured Heroes and villains, more voice talent announcements are likely to be coming soon.
Tomorrow, July 27th, Jeff the Land Shark (who gets a trailer with his own theme song) and Thor, who is prominently featured in the story trailer, will join the closed beta as playable characters. The Marvel Rivals closed beta is running now through August 5th, so if you haven't played yet, if you jump in now you'll get to experience the two new playable characters alongside everyone else.
