Arrowhead Game Studios surprised the Helldivers 2 community this week with the launch of a new Automaton invasion. A number of the game’s planets are now under siege and the community must work to defend them from the Automaton threat before time runs out.

This ability for the developers to shift the front of the game’s ongoing Galactic War has been a boon for keeping the game fresh with new experiences and challenges for players to undertake. The new campaign will last two weeks and offer players 12500 Requisition for their efforts if they succeed.

Seeking to capitalize on the momentum of the game’s success, Arrowhead has also announced plans to begin recruiting new talent to “beef up” the studio’s content plans.

Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt also made comments on the studio’s decision to forego adding PvP to Helldivers 2:

“We'll "never" add a PvP-mode. This is to reduce toxic elements from the community. We want an environment that's supportive, fun and where we all are fighting on the same side!”

Pressed for why he placed never in quotes, Pilestedt added that his mom taught him never to say never, but it sounds like the studio is a hard no on adding PvP to the game.

Helldivers 2 is now available on PC and PlayStation 5.
