It’s hard to argue against Helldivers 2 being one of the biggest releases of the year so far, far surpassing expectations. In fact, it’s gotten to the point where they have to prevent players from staying in the game for too long, by way of a new idle timer.
Helldivers 2 reached over 457,000 concurrent players at its peak several days ago and hasn’t dipped below 100,000 in at least a week. Unfortunately, the servers simply can’t handle it, and given some players are sitting waiting to log in via queue for an hour, it’s no secret everyone wants in.
But while a fix may be on the horizon, Arrowhead is implementing an AFK timer to ensure players give others a fair turn. And if you’re taking a bathroom break, you really have to piss like you mean it, because it’s only about 15 minutes, according to the accompanying patch notes. Any longer without activity, and you’ll be thrown back into the lobby to queue in with the rest of the masses.
At least even the CEO and Helldivers 2’s creative director, Johan Pilestedt, thinks the issues have gotten a bit out of hand, going so far as to say they wouldn’t blame anyone for waiting to actually purchase the game if they’re strapped for cash.
“While we made a really fun game it's worth waiting until the servers can support the capacity,” Pilestedt said on Twitter in reply to one concerned player. “I mean, as a CEO I of course want the game to be as profitable as possible, but if you spent yr last $ and got stuck in server queues I'd be ??”
Hopefully there’ll be a fix sooner than later to accommodate. Have you gotten a chance to get into Helldivers 2?
