Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore is going hardcore with its latest patch, with the team at Oath Games adding a new Hardcore mode among many other changes. This is hot on the heels of a major shift in movement that the team did last month, all of which signifies that the game is stepping into uncharted territory to appease its players.

If you plan on jumping into the Harcore Mode, you'll play with no safety net, brandishing a special icon and status effect marking your no-death journey. However, one fatal mistake will revert your character back to a standard character, which means you aren't losing much, but you will not longer display that you have no deaths.

Customization has also been expanded with over 20 fresh hairstyles, 10 new beard types, and expanded hair color options. The “Change Look” button has also made a return, allowing players to tweak their character’s appearance whenever the urge strikes, so if you've been playing for a bit, now may be the perfect time to check out the new options.

Group play has added a Need/Greed/Pass loot system. This feature may be something old school gamers are familiar with as it ensures everyone in a party has a shot at valuable gear drops, making dungeons and group content more rewarding and less contentious, or perhaps more contentions for that one party member who always selects need.

Combat strategy evolves with the addition of Weapon Coatings. These enhancements let players convert part of their damage into different elemental types. The Monster Hunters offer recipes and materials to craft these powerful coatings, adding a new layer of versatility to fights.

Rounding out the patch are quality-of-life improvements, including a redesigned Corrupted Grove dungeon, improved quest tracking, some combat strategy components called Weapon Coatings, and boosted rewards for dungeon runs.

Ethyrial: Echoes of Yore has certainly come a long way. While it is brandishing a mostly negative score since its release in 2023, the recent reviews on steam are showing very positive which means that the team has made some solid progress over the past year. If you haven't checked out Ethyrial in a while, you can jump into it for free on Steam
