Guild Wars 2 is taking us to the Isle of Janthir in the new Janthir Wilds expansion, coming on August 20th. Expect the new zone, new raid, a brand new weapon, the spear, and Homesteads, an in-depth new player housing system.
Following the annual expansion cadence set with Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds will also get three major updates after launch, bringing new content, story, and features. This expansion will pick up the story following the events of Secrets of the Obscure, and journey to contact the Lowland Kodan to consult them on a new threat making itself known in the wilds.
At launch, expect two new maps set in and around the islands of Janthir, with a third to come in a future update. The Lowland Shore, a rocky area that is home to the Lowland Kodan and the Janthir Syntri also features Titans and storms to contend with. There are also some creatures you may recognize if you’re a fan of World vs. World: Warclaws. In the expansion, you can tame and even ride Warclaws of the Lowland Kodan, opening up training as well. They have a double jump ability to navigate through the rocky terrain.
ArenaNet is also adding the game’s first new raid since 2019 and the first new weapon type since launch – the spear. This two-handed spear is designed for terrestrial combat and will be usable by all professions. However, your profession will alter how the spear works for you. To support this, expect new skills and more build options. Later, a Legendary spear will arrive for you to earn. A spear beta is coming too, from June 27-30th.

Finally, Homesteads are coming. Long requested, now weeks away, is a suite of features to enable expansion owners to create and decorate their own housing space, using a new customization and decorating interface. More will be added for this feature later, but you can also invite your friends and guildmates in your very own space.
Janthir Wilds will be out August 20th for $24.99. Pre-orders are open and pre-order bonuses have been revealed for those who want to get a jump on continuing their adventures. On that same day, Guild Wars 2 will also release, with all of its 12 years of content, on the Epic Games Store.
