This week has seen multiple big Guild Wars 2 announcements, including the news that the team at ArenaNet was bringing the MMO's first proper raid in five years, Mount Balrior, to Godspawn's launch next week. Today the team pulled the curtain back a bit on the raid in a new preview.
The new raid, which will release on November 19th as part of the Godspawn update to the latest Guild Wars 2 expansion, Janthir Wilds, will take players to raid's namesake, Mount Balrior. Players will fight their way through encounters and challenges, culminating in three main bosses of the raid, all of which is, according to ArenaNet, "designed to test your coordination and adaptability."
ArenaNet states that this raid is designed for both casual raiders, as well as a challenge mode made for those looking for the toughest raid challenge yet. Mount Balrior will also see the return of Greer and Decima with new mechanics to learn and overcome.
"Prepare to face a whole new level of intensity as Greer and Decima return with their differing combat styles—and while each boss will create its own set of challenges, we have designed the normal mode of the raid to allow pickup groups and more casual raiders a chance at success," ArenaNet describes in its post. The studio continues, "Greer’s relentless, chaotic attacks are back in force, demanding sharp reflexes and adaptability, while Decima’s highly structured mechanics require meticulous planning and coordination to overcome. Their signature moves and visual cues will feel familiar, but don’t be fooled—each ability has been reimagined, layered with new complexities that will keep your team on its toes. And, of course, the titans aren’t finished surprising you yet; Greer and Decima have a few entirely new tricks to ensure a very challenging experience."
The team also detailed its upcoming Convergence launching with Godspawn, with the event alternating launch times every 90 minutes with the Convergence from Secrets of the Obscure. This 50-player encounter will feature its own host of challenges all on a map designed specifically for Convergence events. The environment will contain features such as hidden passages and breakable walls to let Guild Wars 2's devs "modify and reshape areas, creating a truly unique environment for each encounter."
