Guild Wars 2’s advanced weapon proficiencies continue previews before next week’s beta, and this time, Necromancers will spice up their combat with a sword.

Yep, a  sword-wielding necromancer is on the horizon for Guild Wars 2. Sword skills for a necromancer will focus on dealing strike damage in a particular area, but also consuming your enemies' energy for your benefit. Path of Gluttony is the main hand sword skill 3 and a necromancer using this will jump to an enemy, strike, and heal themselves for each enemy they hit. Other skills, like Hungering Maelstrom continue the multi-benefit strikes, Damaging enemies in an area and stealing their health.

With the new ways of absorbing enemy health, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing, but your swords will take up the slack. Every time you use a sword skill  as a necromancer, you can use a secondary ability by sacrificing some of your health to power your swords. so keep the health drain coming from your enemies because you'll be able to continue out there on the battlefield dishing it out by sacrificing some of those gains for additional damage and effects.

Remember Path of Gluttony, that first main hand skill? Reactivate it by sacrificing some health and trigger Gorge. Not only will you leap towards enemies again, drain them once more, but you’ll also unleash corrupting boons this time. Gormandize is the secondary skill for Hungering Maelstrom. Trigger this one and it will damage and chill enemies that you strike.

With thoughtful strategy and careful skill use, you can be out there as a necromancer with the ability to sustain yourself and dish out huge damage. Of course, this will also vary with how many enemies you’re facing, and can feast from, but the skills are designed for adaptation.

The Expanded Weapon Proficiency beta begins on November 28th, and all classes, including the new sword wielding necromancer, will be available to test out.
