Janthir Wilds is coming in just over a month, and Guild Wars 2 is preparing us with a new lore blog on the Lowland Kodan, an integral part of the next expansion.
The devblog offers a look into some of the story of Janthir Wilds, in particular, how things move forward from Secrets of the Obscure. That expansion dealt with not just the overhaul and fracturing of magical forces at the end of the dragon cycle, but events involved danger from damage to the World Spire and how those events paved the way for the invasion that followed.
Note that there are a few light spoilers about the state of the region and some of the things that kick off the expansion for those who want to avoid learning anything.
In the beginning of the new expansion, you'll find that all of the danger and destruction that came before was noticed. The Tyrian Alliance is established by the nations to make sense of the world. “After everything the world has endured, Tyria’s patience with destruction is limited,” the blog says. This places emphasis on exploring how the rest of the world and what's going on outside of the main story path.
You’ll enter the region of Janthir and catch up on what has been going on, ultimately meeting with some kodan to form diplomatic relations. Then you’ll eventually get to the Isles themselves, and from there, things will change. The Lowland Kodan are capable fighters, experts in survival in the harsh Wilds, and people who revere the environment and consider themselves protectors and stewards of the land.
What the blog continues to inform is that when you spend time in the region you'll be learning a lot about these people and learning from them. Part of what you will learn involves learning how to use (and master) the new spear on the way.
Thinking back to the Alliance, there will also be diplomacy and additional conversations to be had. There's a lot to learn about the lowlanders, and they'll be a big part of the expansion.
