Guild Wars 2’s next expansion, Secrets of the Obscure, will be out in 11 days, on August 22nd. ArenaNet is sharing details on how you’ll be able to get your hands on the Skyscale mount, which is important to the journey ahead.
Arriving in the expansion is the mysterious Wizard’s Tower, and the new areas in the new content will require you to get up into the skies above Tyria. The Skyscale mount isn’t new, but because this expansion is heading to the skies very quickly, the team decided to create a simple, more streamlined way to access one. Additionally, there will be new flying mount Masteries to learn.
The skyscale mount was originally released way back in “War Eternal”, the Living World Season 4 finale. In order to add it to your mount collection at the time, you had to complete a series of achievements, (which required many steps and time investment) in order to claim the mount. Since the new expansion is taking to the skies, now's the time to get your hands on a skyscale mount, possibly for the first time.
Once the expansion is out, you’ll be able to unlock the Flight Training Mastery line, and train the first tier of the line, to unlock the skyscale collection. You'll be able to access the skyscale as soon as you get to the first new explorable zone, Skywatch Archipelago. While you are in the new areas, you will be able to use the mount button to mount wherever and whenever you choose.
Flight Training Mastery will be a big part of the experience, offering new abilities when you train up, bonuses, and more. Some of the training is identical to the original Skyscale Mastery line, and if you’ve already trained those, you will get extra bonuses to Air Rescue and Wall Launch.
Other flying mounts that you might have in your collection, like the Griffin, will be compatible with some of the new combination masteries that will let fly mounts use things like ley lines and updrafts to travel around Tyria.
When the expansion releases, everyone that owns it will also get the Raptor mount. You'll need the Path of Fire expansion to train masteries for that one, but the skyscale lessons are included with the newest release.
