Greg 'Ghostcrawler' Street Feels Leveling 'Should Be an Accomplishment, Not a Blip'

Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, notable for his work on World of Warcraft, League of Legends, and current project codenamed Ghost, has come out against power leveling in games.

Ghostcrawler took to Twitter/X to share his thoughts on the power leveling issue after someone recently asked him if it was a mistake to allow players to get to the endgame in World of Warcraft as soon as possible.

Street noted that getting to the endgame “should be an accomplishment, not a blip” attributing this point of view to his feeling that the leveling experience being a core reason most players fell in love with and became invested in MMOs to begin with.

The replies were a mixed bag with some in agreement and others not so much, but a considerable amount of the apprehension appeared to center around repeating that longer leveling process more so than leveling being slower on the first time around. Street agreed that it’s okay for leveling to be faster on subsequent characters, though he wondered if players’ general apprehension to leveling has more to do with repeating a linear story over and over versus the concept itself, pointing out that leveling doesn’t need to be as repetitive as it often is.
