Shiro Games has shared a first devblog into the gameplay of SpaceCraft, their upcoming space exploration and survival crafting game. The team focuses on the tutorial, with an introduction to early game play, with a series of screenshots to give us a peek of what we can expect.
Everything they show is a work in progress, and there will be a series of blogs to focus on specific parts of the tutorial as an intro. We start on Space Station Babylon 7, which is owned by “The Company”. This fist station is a single-player introduction, space stations will be hubs where you go to trade goods, refine your resources, repair and upgrade your ships, as well as interact with others in multiplayer and co-op.
Once you create your character, a function they're still working on, you will be employee #115-C, an ex-con who just got out of prison and is trying to reintegrate into society by working for The Company. You get a starter spacecraft assigned to you, called Scappy, and a contract which will be your first mission. You don't have any money yet so you'll have to be careful with Scrappy.
In SpaceCraft, your ship will be more than just your transport, it will be like another character. When you upgrade your modules and change your ship, it will affect a lot of different systems. eventually, you'll be able to expand your fleet with additional ships.
In the rest of the blog they take us through the basic flight controls, including descriptions on demonstrations of the piloting interface, as well as more on ships. We also get a taste of how navigation will work, Including the team's efforts to create immersive space travel mechanics and even ways to work with a dynamic navigation system that matches planetary gravity to prevent disorientation and to have smooth transitions.
