Genshin Impact has taken the gaming community by storm these last two weeks, and as a result of that massive popularity, the team at miHoYo has reportedly earned back its development budget, per a report by PC Gamer.
We reported last week that analysts were predicting this might be the case, with Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad expecting that it will have made more than $100m by October's end. Now it seems as though that's already happened. According to the PC Gamer report, the RPG's budget was "reported to be in the range of $100 million," so if the analyst reports are correct, miHoYo has got to be happy with the success.
In a tweet, Amad confirmed that Genshin Impact has now grossed over $100m in less than two weeks, as well as cited data from Sensor Tower, stating it was the second highest grossing game globally on iOS within its first week. As such, Genshin Impact is, according to Ahmad, the "most successful launch for an original IP from a Chinese dev."
Genshin Impact is available for free across multiple platforms, including Android and iOS mobile devices, PC and PlayStation 4. The cel-shaded Anime RPG with extreme influences from the wildly popular The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been praised by players and critics alike, with our own Jonathan White putting a lot more time into Genshin Impact than he ever thought he would initially. We're working on our full review of the game and will have that in the coming days.
