HoYoverse has announced that Genshin Impact version 3.1, King Deshret and the Three Magi arrives on September 28th. The update will introduce a new desert area, Sumeru, and several new playable characters, along with some events and challenges.

The desert of Sumeru introduced by the Nation of Wisdom will be the place where stories and events continue. With this desert-themed update, the team is adding something called dynamic terrain deformation, which is intended to make the desert environment more realistic.

The vast, dangerous desert is where Sumeru’s Archon quest will continue,  and it's where you'll find dungeons, challenges, uncover ancient technologies and more that came from the ancient god.

There are three new playable characters, Candace, Nilou, and Cyno, who are local to the new area and will be available to join your team. Nilou had already joined the game earlier, but here she will be a five-star Hydro character who mixes swordsmanship and her dance skills.

Candace is a descendant of King Deshret, and will use a polearm along with her Hydro Vision, and will be introduced as the guardian of the desertfolk and Aaru village. The village is a large settlement and considered a safe harbor for exiled scholars.

Cyno, or General Mahamatra Cyno, is a five-star Electro character who also battles with a polearm. Giving a nod to playable content coming in update 3.3, he’s introduced as having a love for the trading card game Genius Invokation.

Of course, with a new update there are new events and new rewards. The annual Weinlesefest is back for fall, with a limited time seasonal event and minigames that can net you rewards including a new four-star weapon, Missive Windspear. Events like a daily login event, or themed events like “Wind Chaser” and “Star Seeker’s Sojourn” will offer rewards and the latter gives you the chance to recruit Collei for free.
