[Update April 12th 6:54 AM] - An earlier version of this article made it seem like the Gearbox Publishing itself was replaced by the Arc Games label, when it's only Gearbox Publishing San Francisco. We've updated this article to ensure this distinction is more clear, and apologize for the confusion.
Original Story Below:
Embracer Group completed its company restructuring with its sale of most of Gearbox to Take-Two Interactive in a stock-based deal. Gearbox Publishing, which Embracer kept, was announced in the deal as getting a new name, and now we know what that is: Arc Games.
In an announcement, on absorbing Gearbox Publishing San Francisco (which was originally known as Perfect World North America) under its name, Arc Games is also the publisher of Gigantic: Rampage Edition, the MOBA that is getting a new life, as well as Hyper Light Breaker and “more soon-to-be announced games for 2025 and beyond”.
Those of us in the MMORPG space should be familiar with Arc Games, as this serves as the publisher for Cryptic Studios’ active lineup: Star Trek Online, Neverwinter, and Champions Online. Arc Games is now moving forward with those titles, in addition to the titles mentioned in today’s rebrand announcement. One of the things to note about the Gearbox sale was that Embracer Group would be retaining Cryptic and DECA Games, which Cryptic was placed under.
Work on those three MMORPGs continues, with Cryptic announcing some roadmaps for each and reaffirming their dedication to continued content as well as partnership with DECA. That company will take on development in an ongoing transition already in process, and leave Cryptic to support their games as well.
It should be noted that Gearbox Publishing itself isn't going away, with the company continuing to thrive after the sale from Embracer, publishing titles such as Homeworld 3, Have a Nice Death, Remnant 2 and more.
