Gazillion COO: "MMOs Are In a Rut"

Quoting from a new interview with Gazillion Entertainment COO David Brevik, "MMOs are in a rut." According to Brevik, Ultima Online was a unique take on MMOs but that since World of Warcraft's arrival on the scene, most MMOs have followed its pattern rather than the trailblazing one set up by UO.

"I think MMOs in general are in a rut. It's still mainly WoW clones," he said. "A lot of people have done these games, but it's been that same kind of gameplay, and that doesn't mean that's what it has to be."

Brevik further opines that he, like SOE's John Smedley, believes that free to play games are the future of MMOs and that SWTOR is the last "large-scale subscription game [he] can think of".

Gazillion Entertainment is developing, among other titles, Marvel Universe Online which is scheduled to be released in 2012.
