Dune: Awakening has kicked off Gamescom in a big way, with the first gameplay reveal video, a release window, a new Direct, and even more gameplay coming this week.
Funcom has been slowly revealing details about its upcoming survival MMO. They revealed back in June that the game takes place in an alternate timeline where Paul Atreides never existed. The new gameplay reveal dives into some of the ways that you'll have to learn to engage and survive.
Dune: Awakening will launch first on PC in early 2025, with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 getting the game a little later.
Choose from several different paths, including Bene Gesserit, Mentat, Planetologist, Swordmaster, and Trooper, and align yourself with House Atreides or House Harkonnen in the fight for control over Arrakis and its valuable spice. That fight even extends to guild versus guild battles, with a clash between vehicles, tech, and combatant skills.
The environments of Arrakis are punishing, with scorching hot sun, the ever-present threat of heat exhaustion, “working with others will always increase your chance of staying alive”.
Staying alive will mean a lot of careful effort. Maybe you'll get some equipment in exchange for taking out some deserters. Maybe collecting the blood of your fallen enemies to use the water within to fend off dehydration will save you. Learn how to build your base, upgrade your base, train up and crafting, learn how to effectively trade, and even collect spice.

There is an extended 30-minute gameplay presentation that will be live streamed by a number of official content creators this week and you can tune in. This is the same 30 minute presentation that those who are attending Gamescom can watch (and collect some swag at the Funcom booth).
For those who still want to know more, there will be another Dune: Awakening Direct coming on August 29th, with more gameplay footage and new feature reveals.
