A new update from the Founders has been published on the Crowfall site. The main issue addressed in the letter is how Crowfall is being funded. According to the post, Crowfall has taken initial funding from investment sources to get the company running and the development of the game started. But given the overall price to develop a AAA game, more funds will be required, something the Founders are addressing in three ways.
Additional funding for Crowfall will be raised by:
- selling equity in the Artcraft company
- licensing rights will be sold for overseas publication, though Artcraft will retain control of English speaking locations
- a crowd source campaign
The balance of the letter is spent discussing the overall merits of a crowd funded game from the standpoint that it demonstrates a dedicated community, it creates intimacy between developers and backers and it creates a consumer-focused product.
