Funcom is teasing PvP in Dune: Awakening and letting us all know the importance of staying hydrated on Arrakis with a fun side game.

If you’re looking for PvP, well, the shifting sands will await you when the game is out. Funcom released a brief tease on social media, saying:

“In the deep desert, Coriolis storms will sweep in weekly and completely alter the landscape of this full PvP area. This will bury old locations and unearth new points of interest, providing new opportunities and encounters to discover, and new spice fields to fight over for control and dominance.”

The deliberate italics do give an impression of what we might expect. Sandstorms and sandworms are only some of the dangers on Arrakis, and the team has already mentioned that we’ll get to discover points of interest in our exploration. From the brief clip in the post, we see vehicles all around, intense battle, and a taste of what it might feel like to work to dominate spice fields.

The team has been dripping out more details about the features, the dangers, and the potential for fun and discovery in the upcoming survival sandbox MMO (featuring lots and lots of sand). Recently, they reminded us just how important Spice is to Arrakis, and now it seems that there will be a full PvP zone for those who think it’s worth the additional risk on an already dangerous and challenging planet.

Speaking of challenges, the Dune: Awakening team’s latest is a new just for fun minigame on Discord. In the actual survival game, you will have to worry about staying hydrated, strategically using the shadows to explore carefully, wear a stillsuit, and maybe drain the blood of your enemies and collect water drops on a knife. That is in the game when it launches. For now, there’s a little just for fun hydration game in the Dune: Awakening Discord where you can have the bot challenge you to stay hydrated, with levels changing based on Discord rank.

This part is just for fun, and completely optional, just to add some Dune flavor for now.
