After several recent brief preview videos, breaking down some of the mechanics, gameplay elements, and the characteristics of the environment of Arrakis and why a survival MMO works there, the latest Dune: Awakening video takes a different direction.
There is no narration, no devs to tell us what’s going on. This time, it is an environmental video. Still a brief one, at under one minute, the video is captured in-game and if you look closely and pay attention to what your senses tell you, it does reveal something.
The caption for the video might help you zero in on what to pay attention to, aside from the base, the socks, the sand in the distance, and what’s on the horizon on the desert planet.

“Travel at night; stick to the shadow and master water discipline.
Or succumb to the merciless embrace of Arrakis' scorching heat.”
Look closely as there is a bit of a wind blowing the sand around, but you should also see some rippling effects happening intended to convey the heat that will be the most difficult environmental enemy you’ll face.
As a survival MMO, the heat is going to be a major factor in your adventures in Dune: Awakening. Water discipline gets a mention in that caption, and if you can appreciate the burning heat from this brief peek, imagine what it’s going to do to your characters when the game launches.
The Dune: Awakening team recently finished sending out the invites for its next closed playtest, which is happening this month.
