Funcom is publishing Aloft, an upcoming co-op sandbox cozy survival game set in a world of floating islands, where one of them can be your personal skyship. Developed by Astrolabe Interactive, Aloft is entering Early Access on January 15th after standing out at Steam Next Fest in June.

Back at that event, Aloft got a playable demo and was one of the most played of the event, with more than 300,000 wishlisting the game. There is a playable demo still available if you want to check out the game, with features that you would expect in a survival game like building, crafting, exploring and making discoveries.

What sets this game apart is that the  big world is shaped by wind and you'll be able to take a floating island and transform it into a skyship for yourself. That means putting sales on it, a rudder, a helm, and anything else you need to sail through the skies and strategically use the winds. Using those other mechanics like Gathering resources, building, and crafting, you'll sit around the world and explore, making discoveries through the skies, and learn about the past that has turned the world into what you see today.

You'll learn more as you explore, learning about the history and how the world got the way it is. You’ll learn how to cleanse the corruption from the ecosystems on the islands you discover. Find animals to tame and nurture, seeds to grow new crops, and even stumble on ancient technology and see what you can do with it.

You can play Aloft solo if you want, or a group of up to eight.  if you play with others, everyone can find their own Island to turn into a sky ship and bring it with you when you are joining another player's world.  you can even do things like create a village in the sky.

Early Access will begin on January 15th, 2025 and throughout the rest of development, we can expect new biomes, new mechanics, more items to craft, and a lot more content.
