Thanks to a ruling by the FTC, HoYoVerse must now disclose how much it could cost to actually obtain a 5-Star character in Genshin Impact. Which could cost a bit more than your average player may realize.

On May 6, 2025, HoYoVerse rolled out an update alongside Patch 5.6 which revealed the exact amount of money it could cost to obtain a precious 5-Star character. This could range from $1.98 to $475.20, depending on your luck. Those more versed may look at that number and nod, but it is fairly shocking to look at the actual number if it came down to pity rolling for a character.

In addition to this HoYoVerse was fined $20 million alongside being forced to disclose rates for their banners. Which is a drop in the bucket by comparison to how much HoYoVerse makes across its games.

The Genshin Impact 5.6 update, which rolled alongside this change to its banners, introduced a new 5-Star and 4-Star character, along with a new questline, and an amusement park management mini-game.
