Frostpunk 2's New Free Update Adds Modkit, New Map, Narrative Challenges, and Brings Back Serenity Mode

Frostpunk 2 got a big, free major update, one that adds a brand new map, new challenges, new optional narrative quests, a series of system improvements, and even a return of Serenity mode.

The Pit is a large new map that has a “proto-crater” pit that counts as mountain terrain. The whole thing is built around what remains of a failed Generator project. The Pit can be a starting location or a Frostland colonization site in Utopia Builder mode.

If you like a little more structure to your experience, there are new challenges available in Tales from the Frostland. These are optional, narrative-driven challenges that offer additional storytelling, new challenges with quests and story lines, and add to the replayability factor. Unlock a Monument Hub for your city when you complete one, but weigh the risk, as failure means game over.  The team intends the community to be able to expand and modify these in the future.

The update also overhauls the heating system, expands the Idea Tree and laws with new research topics, buildings, and more. and it also brings back Serenity mode. This mode is now available in the sequel thanks to community request. Expect more abundant resources, gentler weather, and no Fervour system, so there will be minimal protests or disruptions.

There are more changes which you can see in the full patch notes, but one of the biggest is the release of Frostkit. That's right, the team has released their mod tools out of beta.

The team thanked the community for their support of Frostpunk 2 (which moved almost 600k copies in its first few months) and said more free content updates are on the way as well as DLC announcements to come.
