With some of the big changes from Overwatch 2’s Season 15 in full swing, especially the new Perks system, associate director Alec Dawson released a Director’s Take post explaining what Blizzard has in mind for Season 16.
The new Perks system takes a big focus here, given it applies to every hero in the game. The team is working on figuring out which Perks are working out better than others, with a focus on ensuring that no Perks are just all-around bad. The biggest changes will be for Sombra, who’ll have her Stack Overflow replaced with Viral Replications, spreading her Virus to other enemies.
The inbound hero, Freja, will be seeing changes after her round in the Hero Trial. Dawson says that Freja was overall a hit, but there’ll be some extra damage to ensure she secures the kill.
Also, the return of 6v6 game modes, as likely expected by everyone, was a success, only outdone by the Competitive 5v5 queue and, eventually, the googly-eye April Fool’s mode. Down the road, devs are looking at how to allow 5v5 and 6v6 modes to coexist without throwing each other off-balance.
