Fractured Online's Competitive Gameplay Mean You'll Have Some Important Decisions to Make

With Fractured Online, the Dynamight Studios team has been showing off various elements that will all come together to shape your possible experience in the game. These range from the Knowledge system, skill flexibility, meaningful differences between races, and more mechanical things like the player-driven housing system. Now the spotlight is on competitive gameplay, and both PvE and PvP, and your own choices as to how you want to play your characters.

You’ll have plenty of decisions to make, which is clear from everything revealed so far about Fractured Online. One of the things you will determine is your alignment. This will vary based on your race and characteristics, but your alignment and the actions you take will have effects and consequences. One of these is in Karma points, which will affect your alignment, and you can do things like kill Evil creatures or make temple offerings to get more Karma.

If you’re playing a Human, then you have your pick on just what kind of character alignment you prefer, with the full range open to you. Wildfolk are restricted to Good alignment and have positive Karma. Demons are, well, they’re demons, and have Evil alignment. If you’re flagged as Good you won’t be able to do anything hostile against Good or Neutral aligned characters. You can, however, attack or even kill Evil aligned characters and this will earn you Karma points.

If you’re Neutral, you can be hostile against Evil aligned characters too, but also against your fellow Neutral-aligned. None of these actions lost you Karma, so there is an advantage here to this choice. As the team points out, being Neutral can let you have the freedom to take hostile actions against others without too much penalty and Neutral alignment will be required for some endgame PvE events. So this is likely where many of the most competitive will wind up.

Evil alignments are what you might think. Hostility may feel powerful, but anyone else can attack or kill you for reward and you may even be jailed (if someone becomes a bounty hunter and brings you in, adding to their own reputation) or cast out of society.

The last element highlighted is location. The home of the Good-aligned Wildfolk, Arboreus, is a lush and peaceful planet. There is no non-consensual PvP, and a good place for the peaceful player. If you’re Evil aligned and somehow set foot on that planet, it will repel you until it drains your life force. Syndesia is the planet all races can spend time on, so it’s the economic center, and there is room for PvP outside player towns, along with systems (like bounty hunting) to help with the potential trouble brewing. Finally, Tartaros, home of the Demons, is hot and the free for all that hardcore competitors and Evil aligned will find themselves at home on.
