The Fractured Online team has been quiet for a bit, since announcing that they would be downsizing the team after the free to play conversion didn't yield the results they hoped for. Now, there's a new update on how things are going, including the potential for some other financial deal and potential engine upgrade.
Dynamight CEO Jacopo shared the new message over on Discord, acknowledging that there's been little shared with the community but that there is a lot going on in the background. “First and foremost, we want to assure you again that Fractured Online is not being abandoned — we remain fully committed to its continued development,” he says.
They can't share details just yet, but they can reveal that there have been some discussions that could bring some new resources (of the financial kind and more), to the game. It isn’t a new publishing deal, he says, but something else. Could the independent studio be courting a buyer?
“This new chapter is being planned with the utmost care for the legacy of our game and the community that has supported it through thick and thin. Me and the other founders of Dynamight Studios would be a part of it,” he says, which brings up the possibility of a studio / IP sale.
It seems that the update on what has been going on behind the scenes is coming now because they feel good about what they are working out. While he advises that nothing is guaranteed that they anticipate that if things go as planned, a public announcement with details could happen within days.
A long-term goal they are taking steps towards is porting the game to a new backend engine. Ths would improve stability and performance and open greater possibilities for content development.
Looks like we’ll be hearing more on the future of Fractured Online soon.
