This week, there was another Fractured Online devstream to check in, answer community questions, and to preview some more of the work the new Happy Cauldron team is doing, from artwork, optimizations, and overhauls to the skill and combat systems.
Perhaps the biggest topic covered in the stream is the upcoming combat and skills overhaul. Fractured Online’s skills as they are now, Are things you learn by going out and killing monsters, and those monsters are restricted to only using skills that you can learn. There are other limitations and the new system is designed to add much variety. Expect the ability to multi-class, offering options that add up to around 40k possible combinations. They want to also make it easier to spot what your opponent is by looking at their armor, so you can mix armor from different classes. Fighter armor and mage armor would blend on a battlemage and your opponent can parse who you are fast.
They're working on updating the human male and female character models, hair and facial hair options, all with newly created assets, so they'll continue showing these off on the development streams going forward. They also showed off some of the armor redesigns they're working on, including the Slayer armor.
The community asked questions about whether cosmetics are going to be in game or cash shop items. As CEO Duncan Davis says, “You can only really get it done right once”. So while he's a fan of the subscription model where everything was in the game and there were no cash shops, we are in 2025, and we can expect an announcement on monetization to come later.
The team has shared a recap of the general topic covered in the stream, but you can watch the full stream for more in-depth info.
