A Fractured Online stream a few days ago started to dig into the details of upcoming additions and changes. However, the class and progression system revamps are important enough that it warrants its own recap post, released yesterday by the developers, to help players clarify and prepare.
The team first restates that it’s aiming for four pillars in revamping these systems: character identity, visual fidelity, diverse archetypes, and optionality within these archetypes.
Speaking of archetypes, it seems that they’re refocusing the core of this class system on them, letting players progress through their class however they see fit. Players can work through skill trees for race, class, specialization, and weapon proficiencies, choosing between passive bonuses and changeable passive and active abilities.
Some previews are offered for how these trees will progress. For example, humans will be able to have their first class pick at character creation, but other races will need to work on their race-specific tree.
At launch, the team also says they’re going to focus on three “MVP” classes: Fighter, Mage, and Priest, each with their own specialization offers. Plus, some overview is given about how equipment and weapons will work, with equipment affecting playstyle and weapon proficiency being worked into builds.
All of the deeper details about this are available in the full recap post.
