Early Access MMORPG Fractured Online has announced today it's going back into what it calls Closed Development as it experiences issues with its "third-party backend platform." The news comes via the website after what looks to be a week of chaos at publisher Gamigo.
Last year Gamigo and Dynamight Studios announced that the former would be the publishing partner for the MMORPG, which saw Fractured Online finally release into Early Access earlier this year. However, as reports have pointed out, there seems to be trouble afoot, with MassivelyOP reporting the convulsions of at Gamigo earlier this week. One of those, as the site points out, is the removal of Fractured Online from the Gamigo website.
It seems the move to a closed development is the result of some trouble brewing between Gamigo and Dynamight Studios, though no one is saying that exactly. In the post on the Fractured Online website, the Dynamight team simply states it's having issues with its "third-party backend platform" which manages its server infrastructure. The service in question "is responsible for managing game servers and shall ensure a smooth and stable experience for all players."
In the official Fractured Online discord, Dynamight's Jacopo Gallelli states that while he knows the wording of the statement is "Vague," but that it is for "legal reasons."
"Hopefully the developers of the platform will soon go public about the topic," Jacopo says in the Discord.
Jacopo also quelled fears in the Discord that the issue is with the game engine, instead reiterating it was the platform, and if the engine were an issue then the MMO would itself simply be dead.
In the news post, the Dynamight team states that while this is taking resources away for a portion of the dev team to work on a replacement for the platform, the rest of the team is trucking away on the development of the MMO as usual. The Fractured Online dev team does promise that "as the situation has stabilized," there will be a detailed roadmap for 2023.
"We are already at work on a new platform to replace the existing one and will be releasing a schedule for its completion in January. Luckily, just a small portion of the dev team is engaged on this task, while everyone else just keeps working on the game as usual. This means that once we can host servers again, you are going to find plenty of additions and improvements to Fractured Online!"
We've reached out to Gamigo for comment and will update this story with any word from them, as well as any updates from the Dynamight team as they come through.
