Fractured Online is going free to play and moving to a seasonal update model. Dynamight Studios announced the changes as an effort to both grow the game and to deliver bigger updates in a quality over quantity move.

After a couple of weeks of relative silence, but with promises of a big announcement,  Fractured Online will move from a buy to play model to a free to play model. In the announcement, they cited the $15 box price as a barrier, especially in a market with so many free to play MMORPGs. Anyone that paid the box price will get credit for VIP time and/or Dynamight Tokens. In time for the shift, supported languages will increase to seven, with the addition of German, Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish.

One thing they are promising is with this shift, it will be t filler content and smaller, intermittent releases in favor of bigger, meatier updates. So we can expect the team to build out a solid endgame loop, and introduce new dungeons.

With F2P, the team will also launch the very first season. They will need to add guild alliances before they can add seasons. The three-month seasons will offer content for both personal progression and guild progression. In the announcement of Season 1, there’s a work in progress screenshot of a season menu, showing a countdown to the end of the season, a personal progression tracker, and goals that will earn you Glory (and how your earned Glory can boost your guild’s Season Points).

Season 1 rewards will include material to create artifacts, with those materials to be found in dungeons later, when they’re added. Dungeons, coming after F2P launches, will be instanced PvE experiences, with difficulty settings, and accessible solo or in groups. Dynamight doesn’t rule out PvP dungeons later. Also on the way with more dungeons? New monsters, bosses, mini-bosses, and more to discover.

The transition to free to play has been in the works for a while, and the exact date will be revealed.
