After announcing that a deal was confirmed for the future of Fractured Online, Dynamight Studios has announced the details. Happy Cauldron Games will take over development, with the co-founders and devs joining the new team.
Happy Cauldron, an indie studio working on an unannounced title, has acquired the IP. According to Dynamight’s announcement, “With a new team, new leadership and proper funding will come plenty of improvements, including a new backend engine / multiplayer platform and long-awaited gameplay updates.”
The new studio also announced the acquisition on LinkedIn (and they recently hired a new community manager to “Work on reviving a mmorpg community, with a small dedicated passionate playerbase”, so that checks).
Happy Cauldron’s Duncan Davis, a Fractured Online player, talked about the systems and the experiences the original team created, so they're looking to work with that foundation and build upon it.
As for what the future will look like, they'll give us more specific details soon, but the Seattle-based studio did announce some outlines. In addition to continued development, which includes the original devs, expect improvements to backend infrastructure, using the Unity-based coherence network engine and platform for multiplayer game creation and operation.
We’ll see “a new direction for PVP & PVE and a fundamental progression redesign”. They also promise to grow and maintain a “strong partnership” with the community during the changes and moving forward.
So, Fractured Online lives on, and we’ll start to learn more about the specifics soon, as HCG will take over communications and detail next steps.
