Fractured Online’s Steam free weekend has begun. Dynamight Studios also released one more patch ahead of the free play period, with reward updates, and new security measures.

The new update makes a few changes. One of them that should be helpful for many is that there is no 24h timer on respecs for a week, opening up the chance to fine tune things and experiment. There has also been an increase in the orbs that Divine Rewards grant, in response to feedback and requests from solo players for better rewards. “It is clear to us we've swung too much in the direction of rewarding only group content” with the arrival of the big Endgame Changer patch, the team states. Now you’re three times more likely to find orbs when you farm CR7-9 mobs. They’ve included a chart in the patch notes to detail all of the tweaks to drops.

Fractured Online did start off beta testing that patch with guilds and groups, before eventually welcoming a more general group, but it does make sense that they’ve needed to rebalance things a bit once all players had access to the update.

Ahead of the free weekend, the team has also added in some additional security measures to help prevent abuse and griefing. Now the event is live, and while it’s on, free accounts have several important restrictions. If you bought the game on Steam, you won’t be able to use the standalone launcher.

While a free account holder can claim a land parcel and add friends, they can’t add gold for the maintenance fee or name a friend as co-owner of the land. Try out the land system, sure, but those claims will expire in two weeks. You can’t start or join settler groups. If you join an established city will mark free accounts. At first, these rules will be for free accounts, but later, the team will also retroactively apply them to all refunded accounts and the land they claimed.

The Steam free weekend runs through March 11th, and is accompanied by discounts on Founder Packs.
