The Foxhole team is gearing up for the release of the big Naval Warfare update this week, sharing behind the scenes info on developing the major new update, and start times.

Naval Warfare arrives on October 26th, Siege Camp originally announced earlier this month. Unlock times have also been posted, with Able, the server for experienced and current players having their Conquest start at 2 PM ET. Charlie, the server for new or returning players, will kick off at 12 PM ET. Baker, the final shard, will be available for any overload.

Not only can you build and deploy fleets of ships that include gunboats, destroyers, and battleships, you and your massively multiplayer crew on your server will get to work together above and below deck to keep things running.

Since Foxhole works as a giant, ongoing war, you'll have to consider new naval tactics and strategy and coordinate with your teammates in some of the usual ways of the game. This means additional thoughts about having to keep your ships loaded up, ammunition delivered, sea mines deployed as needed, and you'll also be able to control and build beach landings so you can deploy directly at sea onto ships that will ferry your infantry and armor.

Siege Camp started to consider adding these extra layers of strategy and complexity simply enough–by considering the size and scale of battleships.  This eventually gave way to the idea of a new update, with new systems, physics, the game’s largest-ever vehicles, and more granular details to consider.

“At this point it wasn’t even clear if boats could have interiors, would float with water physics, or have any of the features they ended up with. When it came to actually implementing a first ship the goal wasn’t ‘Which faction gets which boat?’ but ‘Can we make a boat actually work the way we want without breaking the game?’”

Read the full behind the scenes look into how all of the elements came together, with concept art, illustrations, and details about the entire process over at Foxhole.
