Don McGowan, formerly general counsel at Bungie, recently took to LinkedIn to share his thoughts on the adjustments the studio is making for the future of Destiny 2. His take is that Sony’s “forcing them to get their heads out of their asses” and that’s a good thing.
McGowan’s argument is that Sony getting Bungie to shift focus to player acquisition and running the game like a business is the best path forward for the studio and the game and that egos got in the way of these changes being made sooner.
Bungie’s plans for Destiny 2 include a new content model that will see the release of two medium sized expansions along with four major free content updates each year. The studio will also overhaul the game’s user interface to make it less intimidating for new users trying to figure out what game modes or content to play to earn the rewards they seek.
Earlier this year, Sony gave Bungie orders to operate with more accountability when considering its budget and schedules. With all eyes on the hotly anticipated The Final Shape expansion and its subsequent disappointing sales performance, it’s no surprise that there are major changes along these lines at Bungie.
