ARK: Survival Evolved publisher Snail Games has announced this morning its next upcoming survival game, For The Stars. The latest survival game is billed as a "space-themed, open universe" survival title that sees players explore the wide universe, seeking out new worlds and discoveries along the journey.
For The Stars puts players in the role of an "intrepid explorer and scientist," setting out into the stars themselves to explore the vast reaches of the unknown to discover what is out there. According to game director Primus Majda in a developer vision video accompanying this morning's announcement, exploration and scientific discovery are at the core of For The Stars. Players will gather resources, build settlements among the planets, research new technologies, and even design and build custom spacecraft to explore the universe around them. Players can research new technologies to improve the advanced tech they start with - sometimes incorporating alien technology into the mix.
While exploration and scientific discovery might be at its core, that doesn't mean that there won't be plenty of opportunities to engage in a little bit of combat, with both boots-on-the-ground combat and within your very own spaceship. The Stars will pit you against hostile alien creatures protecting the planets you might have landed on, intending to colonize or even fight against rival players for supremacy over a resource or region. Like all Snail Games experiences, For The Stars is a sandbox where players shape the world around them.
For The Stars is set within a persistent multiplayer universe, though the player count or whether or not it would be single-shard or broken into custom and official servers like Snail's other games is to be determined. No release date was given either, though a Steam page has popped up for those who want to keep up with updates directly from the dev team and wishlist the game. You can also join the official Discord for more. In the meantime, check out the developer vision video from game director Primus Majda, embedded above, for more info.
