Wolcen Studio is giving some insight into their upcoming game codenamed Project Pantheon. The game’s first devblog details how your success won’t just depend on combat skill, but crafting, customization, and item durability will all shape the core experience.
Game Director Andrei Chirculete says that the community voted on what they want to know more about and this seies of interlinked core topics is first up. Dungeons will be next.
Crafting is going to be a major part of progression. Adaptation and ability to manage resources will matter a lot. All of the game's weapons, tools, and consumables are crafted at category-specific crafting stations. The idea is to encourage people to make choices and specialize for the best outcomes.
Risk versus reward is going to weigh on each step of your adventure. You'll be gathering materials from a number of sources including quests, harvesting, salvaging loot, and via the extraction mechanics. Each expedition you go out on is a chance to get some rare resources if you survive.
You can customize even identical base weapons in very different ways through modifications via slots on each one. Maybe you want to optimize for speed and agility, or maybe you like raw power. Swap weapons with different customizations and it's like a soft class change in a game without classes. They're looking to expand this customization to other gear types.
Finally, durability is going to play a role in both your individual success and the player-driven economy. Every battle will cost your item some durability. Every repair lowers maximum durability. It will all break, ultimately, so durability is a core part of the game's economy. In this ARPG, none of it is precious.
“Unlike traditional ARPGs, where the goal is often to chase a perfect item drop, our focus is on giving you consistent access to your ideal playstyle,” Chirculete says.
