Today, The Elder Scrolls Online team revealed first details about what’s coming in base game Update 45 and the new Fallen Banners dungeon DLC.

Update 45 is the free base game update that arrives alongside the new DLC. It is focused on enhancing and improving the base game in several ways. First, several starter zones are getting a refresh with visual upgrades, including improved lighting, terrain transitions,  and overall atmosphere. The polish also includes  environmental tweaks like more organic clutter and props that make the spaces feel more lived in. The zones are Betnikh, Stros M’kai, Bleakrock, Bal Foyen, and Khenarthi’s Roost. Essentially, they want to elevate the quality to later starter zones like West Weald.

The long-promised Cyrodiil improvements begin with the Cyrodiil Champions Test Campaign. “When playing a Cyrodiil Champions test campaign, you and your fellow players are locked to specific class builds, including abilities, attributes, and items.” In this first phase, there will be seven Champion classes available, with some features blocked. Everyone will have equal power, so it's all about the skill.  The first part of many tests, and a full rollout with additional options and features will eventually be introduced. Matt Firor teased these experiments and tests in his year-end letter and the switch to seasons announcement.

The update will also bring a number of general improvements and quality of life changes.

Fallen Banners features two four-player dungeons to take on, each with their own storylines, characters, challenges, and of course, rewards. Stuff you won’t find anywhere else. You’ll need a ESO Plus membership to access the DLC when it releases. It may become available for Crowns later, but at launch, it’s a membership exclusive.

The first dungeon, Exiled Redoubt, takes place amid the Alliance War threatening Tamriel. Battlemage Lucilla asks you for help to investigate the disappearance of Imperial soldiers. This is just the beginning, as completing this dungeon will involve infiltrating a stronghold belonging to House Albus and a mysterious plot that further threatens the people of Cyrodiil.

The second dungeon sees the Moth Priest sanctuary, Lep Seclusa, home to an Elder Scroll, under siege. You’ll have to defend the sanctuary and the Moth Priests, against the attackers after the relic and maybe, other intentions. This won't be as simple as it sounds either.

This year is the first in a while without an annual big chapter release. There will be a big global reveal stream in April.

Expect Fallen Banners and Update 45 March 10th on PC/ Mac and on March 25th on Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
