Unchained Entertainment has launched its looter-slasher PvE game, Final Stand: Ragnarok, into Early Access...again.
Despite living on Steam since 2021, the team at Unchained Entertainment dubbed that first launch as its "First Access" period but called it Early Access purely because Steam doesn't allow for more nuance.
With five different champions to choose from (with more coming as Early Access evolves), players are dubbed with take on the hordes of Hel at the behest of Odin Allfather. In teams of eight players, you'll defend towers from the vast armies of Hel seeking to bring Ragnarok upon the land.
It's a game that doesn't take itself too seriously, as Unchained Entertainment CEO Mark Jacobs told us in an interview earlier this month, and it shows in the gameplay. Dialogue is a bit cheesy, while the way the team uses colors evokes a darker, yet popping 80s cartoon vibe that works well.
While I didn't really enjoy what I played in our demo last week, that isn't to say that you will feel the same. Final Stand: Ragnarok is a buy-to-play game, and will feature seasons and battle pass-style content to further monetize the game. In addition to the tower defense mode right now, the team is working on an arena mode, as well as a maze that will basically help act as the framework for The Depths, a feature in Unchained Entertainment's upcoming MMO, Camelot Unchained, which is due out late next year.
