Next month’s Final Fantasy XIV update, Buried Memory, has a new minisite to explore before patch 6.2 arrives. There’s also been a delay in plans for the North American data center expansion.

Patch 6.2, Buried Memory, is set to bring new main scenario quests, a new dungeon, the introduction of the Island Sanctuary feature, the first Variant Dungeon, and the first two Criterion Dungeons, the official release of Adventurer Plates, along with lots more. The minisite for update 6.2x is now live, and you can visit for a rundown of what you can expect from 6.2 to 6.25.

There are no details on the coming features yet, so the minisite is pretty bare, but the list of what's in 6.2 and 6.25 is still pretty big.

For a while now, Final Fantasy XIV has seen incredible growth and a sustained active community and  the team has promised data center expansions across various regions. Recently, both Europe and Japan got new data centers, increasing capacity. North America was supposed to get the first phase of its own data center expansion starting next month, but due to supply issues, this has been delayed to November.

According to Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida,

“ Though the first phase was scheduled to take place in August 2022, the server vendor has informed us that the delivery of the equipment will be delayed due to the semiconductor shortage. We have tried to coordinate with related parties in hopes of finding a solution, but ultimately a delay proved unavoidable.”

However, with the first phase now delayed by several months, he declares that timing on the second phase remains unchanged. The goal is to add four servers and that plan is still planned for spring/summer 2023.

You can read the announcement over at Final Fantasy XIV.
