In a new interview, Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida mused about a new game mode for the MMO - hypothetical of course. Surprisingly, a battle royale featuring the Blue Mage class was brought up.

The response was in answer to a question by Gamespot's Tamoor Hussain, where he asked Yoshida if there was a game mode he'd like to see added to Final Fantasy XIV without restrictions. Yoshida pondered the point, stating that the idea of the no restrictions was "unrealistic." But interestingly he took the question and ran with it, describing a hypothetical mode where Blue Mages learn spells and battle other Blue Mages till there is only one standing.

Sounds like the incarnation of PlayerYoshi-P's Battlegrounds, right?

Yoshida states that in this hypothetical game mode, he'd need to ensure that it retains the Final Fantasy feel, and while it would be "nice" to make this mode come true, actual content going into FFXIV takes priority.

The interview covers the newly released 6.2 patch, which brought with it new story content alongside the introduction of FFXIV's Island Sanctuary mode. Robin was shocked at how much she enjoyed the new Island Sanctuaries, and if you're curious about the other 6.2 content, then our FFXIV expert Victoria has you covered.

Speaking of being covered, if you're interested in the future of Final Fantasy XIV, the next Letter from the Producer LIVE will be taking place this Friday at 9:30 PM PDT (that would be Saturday morning, 12:30am ET for you East Coasters). The Letter will be looking forward to Patch 6.25 as well as talking with the Scenario Team.
