After DDoS attacks caused Final Fantasy XIV to suffer from disconnects, crashes, and the inability to log in across multiple regions, Square Enix has updated on the recovery from those incidents.
After an update yesterday morning informing players that these attacks had occurred, and not much else through the day, the team proceeded to hold its previously-scheduled maintenance last night. The maintenance time was extended, probably in relation to the DDoS attacks that were going on.
That was over around 1:45am PDT, and followed by login issues on the Chaos data center, impacting European servers until this afternoon around 1:39pm PDT. Some players on Reddit were noticing trouble, where some were able to get into the game after the maintenance was over, only to suffer more disconnects and to be unable to enter. It was around this time when people started noticing that a lot of the ongoing issues today were centered around European servers. Other regions were recovering more steadily.
Overall, Final Fantasy XIV seems to be recovering from the attacks, with the team working to get systems up and running, but it is taking some time to sort through everything. An official update pegs the timeframe of the active attacks from May 6, 2024 6:00 a.m. to May 7, 2024 6:33 a.m. (PDT). FF14 has been attacked this ebay before, including back in 2022 when there was also ongoing high demand, causing a bigger disruption.
