There was some pretty major news coming out of Square Enix today regarding Final Fantasy XIV, their European Fan Festival, and PS5 backwards compatibility.
First up, Square Enix has cancelled the European Fan Festival which was originally planned for February of 2021. They’re now looking to host a digital event as outlined on Twitter,
“In light of the ongoing pandemic, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the European Fan Festival planned for February 2021. #FFXIV
We're now looking into hosting a digital event. Thanks a lot for your understanding, and stay safe! https://sqex.to/FIBcm”
Additionally, their latest Letter from the Producer outlined several things. The majority of the stream actually touched on Patch 5.35. As part of the patch, we’ll be heading to the Bozjan Southern Front where we’ll support the Bozjan Resistance as their fight against the IV Legion.
Also discussed was PS5 backwards compatibility. If you own the game on PS4, you’ll be able to upgrade to the PS5 version. This means that the PS4 version can be used to play on PS5. On PS5, you’ll experience shorter loading times, as well as utilizing the PS4 Pro options for the game. This means you’ll have the option of a 4K mode or a performance mode.
