Final Fantasy XIV Has Finally Launched Today On Xbox Series Consoles

Bunch of new Sprouts to guide

After a decade of PlayStation console exclusivity stretching back to the PlayStation 3, Final Fantasy XIV has finally launched on an Xbox platform.

The launch comes after weeks of beta on the platform, with today being the big day many new players entered Eorzea. It comes at a great time too, as Final Fantasy XIV is heading into its Dawntrail expansion sometime this summer, giving Xbox players a chance to catch up on the award-winning MMORPG in the meantime.

The Xbox version of Final Fantasy XIV isn't without its own share of quirks, though, as it requires an Xbox Game Pass Core or Ultimate (RE: Xbox Live of yore) subscription in addition to the required sub that Square Enix charges. By contrast, PlayStation users do not need to worry about PS+ to join their fellow Scions in-game. Additionally, no Game Pass Subscription is needed to take advantage of the free trial version of the MMO.

One benefit of having the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate sub is that, for a limited time, subscribers can snag the Final Fantasy XIV Starter Edition, which includes A Realm Reborn, Heavensward, and Stormblood. This perk is available to both new and existing players, though it should be noted that grabbing it will mean you can no longer enjoy the free trial offered by the MMORPG team.

The Xbox version does have its own currency, dubbed FFXIV Coins, which looks to work in place of Crysta on Xbox. This is used to pay for service fees and items on the in-game store, such as cosmetics, mounts, and more.

Square Enix has put together a primer of sorts to help get new Xbox Sprouts started, with all the information on Lodestone. Have you hopped in yet on Xbox? Let us know in the comments below.
