All Final Fantasy XIV owners can add the Stormblood expansion to their accounts for free thanks to a new Square Enix promotion.
While you’ll need to have an active subscription to play FFXIV, it seems that as long as you own the game, or buy the Starter Edition, you can claim the expansion. The promotional period runs from today through May 8th. The offer is available across supported platforms, but timing may vary.
Stormblood released in 2017, is the game’s second expansion, following Heavensward. If you claim a copy through this promo, it will remain on your account after the promo period ends. Of course, if you’ve kept up to date with all expansions, this doesn’t apply to you, but it is another way to try to get more people into the game.
Of course, the famous and often-memed Final Fantasy XIV free trial is also available to tempt anyone who hasn’t yet gone adventuring in Eorzea. That free trial consists of the base game and the Heavensward expansion, so Stormblood just makes sense as a free gift.
This promotion also comes at a time to coincide with the return of the free login campaign. These campaigns repeat once in a while to try and tempt players with inactive accounts back. Anyone with an account that has been inactive for at least 30 days qualifies for the 96-hour free play period.
This promo also runs from today through May 8th. You’ll have to set aside four days where you want to take advantage of your free play time, with time starting on the first day and ending at midnight on the fourth day. There is extended downtime coming between April 3-4th for a North American data center hardware upgrade, so plan your login time around that.
