Players who enjoy Final Fantasy XIV for it’s position as a less stressful MMO experience may be surprised to hear that game director Naoki Yoshida (otherwise known as Yoshi-P) has expressed regrets over making the game so comfortable over the years.

According to comments made to Famitsu and machine translated by PCGamesN, Yoshida compared Final Fantasy XIV to a side-scrolling game without holes to potentially fall into.

In the future, and perhaps as soon as the game’s upcoming Dawntrail expansion, Yoshida intends to explore opportunities to add more challenge to the game. No specifics were provided at this time, but players used to cruising through the game should consider themselves on notice.

Square Enix recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of FFXIV: A Realm Reborn, which released back in August 2013. The studio announced plans to wrap up the festivities with a special 14 hour live broadcast set to air on April 12.

Separately, the FFXIV community came together to pay tribute to Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama, who unfortunately passed away recently.  Players lined up across the game’s servers cosplaying as various Toriyama characters and placing “fireplace” minions at their feet as a memorial.
