The next Final Fantasy XI update will be arriving soon and will include the next chapter of The Voracious Resurgence. The update will also rotate monthly goals, add new battle content, update Ambuscade, and more.

The continuation of the Voracious Resurgence will be chapter 9, part 2 and this will continue the story and reveal some secrets. For those that have been following along this far, Producer Akihiko Matsui says to expect some twists.

One of the significant changes is the brand new battle content, Sortie. You’ll be able to go and reforge your armor to +2 versions. There’s minimal detail on the mechanics, though, so expect to have to see players work through it.

The monthly Ambuscades will both be returning versions, with Ramuh and Morbols. Though each will feature some tweaks to keep things interesting. Volume one, featuring Ramuh, will have adjusted damage resistance on the enemy summoner. The Morbols edition will have the SHINING BLESS ladies return for the first time in four years. Both will have updated rewards.

Ambuscade, Matsui reflects, has always been envisioned as some way for people to return to the game and step into endgame content or for players who have finally reached the level cap to adjust into endgame content. But the team is making one adjustment and removing exemplar points loss when you're knocked out. This change is being made to encourage players to be able to take the risk to help others without having to weigh the possibility of this penalty. So they’re simply being removed.

Additionally, there will be a new Return Home to Vana’diel campaign targeted at players that might want to step back into the world. Since it's the 20th anniversary, this will be longer than usual to coincide with extended events and celebrations already planned for the month of August. There will also be extended Assist channel opening time for the return campaign.
