A week before Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth launches on PC, Square Enix has announced that the game will be fully playable on Steam Deck. Square shared that FF7 Rebirth has received a fully “Verified” status for the Steam Deck, meaning that not only is it playable on the device, but has optimizations and tweaks to make it a seamless experience on the portable console.
“That means upon launch on January 23, you’ll be able to play the critically acclaimed RPG on a train, on a plane, swaddled up in bed, in the bathroom… wherever you want,” the announcement reads. “It’s fine - we won’t judge.”
The FF7 socials even go as far as showing off some brief gameplay on the Steam Deck.

Of course, Steam Deck doesn’t offer full graphic fidelity like a full-on PC rig or a Playstation 5 would, but given it’s the sorta-kinda remake of the game with hands that are somehow both polygons and circles at once, many may take the convenience over the graphics. However, for those planning to actually try to milk Rebirth’s stunning graphics built for the PS5, the release claims it can “achieve up to 4k resolution and 120 FPS with the right hardware.”
For those that prefer the Epic Games Store, it’ll also be available there. Remake wasn’t available on the Square Enix Store, so it’s unlikely Rebirth will be too, which is a shame for those of us hoarding Member points for the return of its Rewards.
